Oakridge Over The Shoulder Chardonnay 2008

Fruit for this wine was sourced from three vineyards in the Upper Yarra, Killara Park, Gladysdale and Oakridge. A combination of hand picked/whole bunch pressed and de-stemmed fruit was used to make this wine.

The whole bunch components were pressed to tank, settled overnight and racked to barrel for fermentation with indigenous yeast. A combination of 225, 300 and 500 litre French oak barrels were used, of which approximately 15% new.

The treatment for the crushed grapes was the same, except for the introduction of cultured, neutral yeast to conduct the fermentation.

Post fermentation, barrels were sulphured to discourage malolactic conversion and rested for 9 months on yeast lees.

Appearance

Pale straw with a green hue.

Nose   

An intense fruit driven varietal opening of white flowers, nectarine, lemon citrus and grapefruit enhanced with light toast and hints of struck match.

Palate              

Flowers, citrus peel, grapefruit and nectarine supported by pain grille in a seamless integration of fruit and artefact. A strong mineral thread runs through the length of this elegant wine leaving a pleasing natural acidity.
