Bladen's Summer Success29/05/2019
Bladen Wines in Marlborough, New Zealand is a boutique winery that makes small batches of handcrafted wines loved by so many of our customers. Chris Macdonald of Bladen has given us a short summary of Bladen's summer success.
Vintage has almost finished, and with the weather being so perfect it was a wonderful early harvest. We are all feeling pretty calm and relaxed as the winemaking process comes to an end. The wines in tank (this vintage) and barrels (from last vintage) are tasting terrific and we can’t wait to get these into bottles between late July and October.
This year we have produced Bladen Rosé, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir and what is shaping up to look like a very interesting Sauvignon Blanc with part of the blend wood-fermented.
In January our son Blair joined our team full time and we really appreciate the extra pair of hand, not to mention the excitement, enthusiasm and vitality of having a younger person around. Although for at least 7 previous vintages Blair has taken time out of his ‘Wellington day job’ to work for us based in the winery, now that he is home permanently he is keen to complete his studies for a Bachelor of Viticulture and Winemaking. This will be a fantastic asset!
Our Cellar Door has just completed its busiest summer season yet but is now closed for the winter and will reopen again in October.
