New vintage of Villa Mangiacane Riserva hits Decanter top spot!03/04/2013
The May addition of wine magazine Decanter sees their latest panel tasting for the 2009 vintages of Chianti Classico Riservas. The judges made up of Michael Palij MW, Emily O'Hare and Richard Baudins were all impressed by the drinkability and balance of the 89 wines tasted.
Out of these 89 wines, 17 were Highly Recommended but only one was rated as Outstanding with a score of 95/100 - our very own Villa Mangiacane Chianti Classico Riserva 2009.
Now enjoying their 10th anniversary the current team at Villa Mangiacane have worked hard to maintain exacting standards from their wines, and are delighted to receive this prestigious accolade from Decanter. We currently hold back vintages from Villa Mangiacane including 2003 and 2004 of their Riserva and their flagship Aleah wine.
To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Villa Mangiacane in Tuscany they are also releasing a small quantity of special limited edition Chianti Classico which will be available through Hard to Find Wines, with those lucky enough to find a special cork winning a luxury weekend in the fabulous Villa Mangiacane Villa!
The Decanter Riserva 2009 tasting notes:
Richard Baudains, Subtle, complex nose, with dried flowers and white
pepper. Great structure and complexity on the palate, concentrated but
agile. Punchy and long. Great prospects. Lovely wine.
Emily O’Hare, Smells like copper pennies, like hands after coins. Warm,
sweet mouthfeel. The fruit is ripe and soft – super curvy wine; acidity is
present but not pronounced. A saline quality, almost salty. Enjoyable now.
Michael Palij MW, Traditional nose with dusty wood, red fruit and a
balsamic character. Lots of spice, leather, and black fruit underneath. Fine
tannins from oak, impressive length. Restrained, high-altitude fruit and
delicate oak lending structure and complexity.
