  • Just in time for International Pinotage Day!

Half case of South African Pinotage on offer!

The 2nd Saturday every October celebrates South Africa's own grape varietal, Pinotage. Wineries producing Pinotage in SA mark the International Pinotage Day with events, promotions and wine tastings.

The grape produces deep red wine with cherry, tobacco, liquorice and earthy flavours. Despite its reputation, good quality Pinotage should not smell of acetone! Carefully produced and aged, it should have aromas of red and dark fruit, graphite, coffee and chocolate.

    History of Pinotage

The varietal was created in 1925 by South African, Abraham Izak Perold. Perold was the first Professor of Viticulture at Stellenbosch University. Attempting to combine the best qualities of Cinsault (called Hermitage in SA) and Pinot Noir, Perold's experiments resulted in a grape that was easy to grow but not necessarily easy to work with when creating great wines.

    Future of Pinotage

    Black grapes on a vine

While the majority of Pinotage is produced in South Africa, the wine is experiencing a revival with winemakers around the globe taking up the challenge of creating a great Pinotage.

The latest vineyard to experiment with this grape is Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens in Horsham, so within five years, we could be seeing an English Pinotage!

Half Case of Pinotage now only £60!

Half case of South African Pinotage

We have selected 6 wines we believe best exemplify the unique Pinotage grape, from wineries in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Swartland and the far Northern Cape.

  • Great Discounts on Te Herā Wines!

Ask us who produces the most exquisite Pinot Noir in the Martinborough region of New Zealand and we would have to say Te Herā!

Te Herā is a family business producing a small range of handcrafted wines.

Thirteen acres of vines were originally planted at Te Herā in 1996. The unique soil structure with underlying gravel deposits together with the cooling winds, low rainfall and long dry Autumns of Martinborough's microclimate, allow Te Herā to grow premium quality grapes. The fruit is then expertly handcrafted to produce their Kiritea and Reserve Pinot Noir.

Te Herā uses organic management practices and has designed its vineyard practices to have minimal impact on the environment and to ensure the sustainability of their crops.

The estate has been fully certified organic by Biogro NZ since their 2010 vintage and the wines have been fully certified since 2013.

We have now discounted our Te Herā Wines for a short time! Take a look below and make sure you don't miss out!

    Te Herā
    Kiritea Pinot Noir

A bottle of Te Hera Kiritea Pinot Noir 2012

  • First XI Wines: Wines to Bowl You Over

We took a trip recently to Rickety Bridge in Franschhoek, South Africa to meet Anya Grobler, the woman behind Infinity Wines. Anya introduced us to the First XI Wines and filled us in on the journey the team has taken in creating their wines.

The story began in 2013. Four friends and legendary cricketing heroes, Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers, Mike Hussey and Stephen Fleming enjoyed a meal together where they discussed a shared vision: to make a wine of excellent quality and craftsmanship.

Faf introduced the cricketers to Infinity Wines which led to the creation of First XI Wines. All the First XI Wines are made at Rickety Bridge by winemaker Wynand Grobler. The first wine released as a result of this collaboration was the First XI The Belter 2014.

    Infinity Wines
The First XI The Belter 2015

A bottle of Infinity First XI Wine The Belter 2015

Hard To Find Wines currently stocks The Belter 2015, a Rhone-style blend of Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault, Tannat and Viognier. Silky soft on the palate with succulent tannins and notes of white pepper, red fruit, chocolate and cherry tobacco on the nose, the wine was matured in small French oak barrels for 15 months. All grapes used to make this wine were hand-picked. The Belter is a very accessible, good quality wine with good aging ability. Only 6,000 bottles were produced.

Enjoy The Belter with ostrich or beef carpaccio, duck, venison and rump steak with pepper sauce.

    Infinity Wines
The First XI The Partnership 2015

A bottle of Infinity First XI The Partnership 2015

The First XI The Partnership is the flagship of the First XI Wines. It is an intriguing, multi-dimensional, Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. It shows great concentration and length with pureness and focus on the palate. A red fruit driven wine with silky but present tannins shape, the wine spends 20 months in oak barrels. Only 4,000 bottles were produced.

The Partnership pairs well with a slow roasted leg of lamb.

    Infinity Wines
The First XI The Centurion 2015

A bottle of Infinity First XI Wines The Centurion 2015

The First XI The Centurion is a single varietal Cinsault, irresistible and well-balanced with bright, ruby-red hues. This wine is produced from old, unirrigated bushvines planted in 1954, selected for unique, prominent terroir flavours.  Only 10% of the wine was aged in older French oak barrels with the rest being stored in stainless steel tanks. The resulting wine presents aromas of cherry, red berry, white pepper and some spicy notes on the nose and savoury, spice and fruit flavours complimented by freshness and subtle oaking on the palate.

An ideal pairing for The Centurion is roasted springbok or venison loin.

As Cellar Master at Haute Cabriere, Takuan forges an innovative path in an age-old industry, a path pioneered by his father, Achim von Arnim under the philosophy of Sun Soil Vine Man.

The understanding that sun and soil, work together with the vine to produce great wine, with man gently and respectfully orchestrating these elements as they create the eventual outcome and expression of the vintage, is best summed up by Haute Cabriere's statement "Great wines are grown."

  • Perfect Summer Wedding Wines

Selecting the perfect wines for your summer wedding

With summer wedding season in full swing, there is so much to be done! Planning a wedding is a complex operation with so many variables, such as dresses and suits, flowers and cars, speeches and food. One of the more enjoyable aspects of all this hard work is selecting the wines for your big day. So how do you go about planning and selecting the right wines for your reception?

  • Up to 60% off South African Wines

Over the past 10 years we have had the pleasure of importing some fantastic quality wines from all over the world. However, we continually strive to find new wines and boutique vineyards offering exciting and tasty wines for our clients to enjoy. Inevitably this means some wines have to make way for the new, and currently we have a selection of South African wines which are making way for the new.

Seidelberg was a firm favourite of ours being one of the original vineyards we imported from. Unfortunately a few years ago the farm was bought up by the neighbouring Fairview in Paarl, and the Seidelberg and De Leuwen Jagt ranges are no longer produced. We have just limited stock of a few of the Seidelberg range remaining, without doubt the last in the world.

Du Toitskloof was another of our first imports, again now no longer looking to export its own branded wines to the UK and instead with new management taking over a few years ago, are producing primarily own label wines for large retailers.

Zorgvliet in Stellenbosch, although great wines, was a vineyard whose range never seemed to particularly take off here in the UK. Just a small amount of stock remains in our warehouse, but we are happy to have taken on a replacement in the form of Lanzerac, a stunning estate not too far away and home to the first ever Pinotage produced.

Wines from the above vineyards are currently with up to 60% off so grab yourself a bargain here
