The Calitzdorp region is one of South Africa's hidden gems. With a climate similar to that of the Douro Valley in Portugal, it is famed for producing excellent fortified wines similar to Port. The area is different to many others around the country as they use traditional Portuguese grapes such as the Touriga Nacional and the Tinta Barroca. The low rainfall and humid day time temperatures create a complex taste that retains its acidity.
With so many different types to choose from, the Calitzdorp really does offer something for every taste – we have compiled a great list of white, red and rose wines from the area allowing you to simply pick the bottle(s) of your choice.
