Monterey County’s wineries are based in the eastern part of Monterey County, California. With more than 35,000 acres of vineyards, the region is among some of the largest producers of wine in California. High temperatures with cool winds give a fantastic climate for growing a large variety of grapes; while whites are the most popular the variety of temperatures make it conducive to red wine grapes as well.
Particularly known for its Chardonnays, the long growing periods in the cooler Monterey County region make for some truly stunning white wines – although its broad coverage means the southern regions in Monterey County produce a number of popular Pinot Noir and Bordeaux varieties.
