W & J Graham's Six Grapes Reserve Port

This is a special one-off edition of Graham's flagship ruby, proudly billed as Winston Churchill's favourite port, celebrating its centenary this year by assembling the produce of the oldest vines of the Symingtons' five quintas. It's based on the great 2011 and very respectable 2012 vintages. Deep blueish crimson. Just 6,000 bottles were produced and most will go to the US where Six Grapes, I'm told, has a 'cult following'. Hugely concentrated and wild on the nose - essence of untrammelled Douro! There is a mass of fine tannin on the finish - real chew - but a welter of ripe black fruit on the front palate. Black cherry, mulberry but not exceptionally sweet. Very long. Pure pleasure even if not particularly complex. Jancis Robinson
