Ideal with red meat main courses such as steak, lamb or even pork, red wines can be enjoyed with buffets or canapés too. Darker reds go well with roasted food and rich meat, whereas lighter reds complement mushroom dishes or vegetarian options.
On offer are a wide variety of tastes and prices, ranging from Spanish Tempranillo to Rubicon and Pinot Noir. For example, you may wish to order a Pinotage Cabernet, with typical South African earth and tropical flavours – or perhaps a soft Merlot, for its dark tones and hints of red fruit including plums or blackberry. For a medium to full-bodied vintage, Shiraz offers fruity blackberry or even black pepper and mint bouquets.
