Lanzerac wine estate dates back to 1692 with a rich heritage in producing high quality wines and often at the forefront of South African wine development. It was at Lanzerac that the first commercially produced Pinotage was available, a 1959 vintage released in 1961 having been originally developed in Stellenbosch in 1925 by crossing Pinot Noir with Hermitage also known as Cinsault.
Wines are currently produced at Lanzerac by winemaker Wynand Lategan under the guidance of Boets Nel the general manager also of De Krans fame. The range of wines at Lanzerac is comprehensive including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a top quality Method Cap Classique ad of course two iconic Pinotages.
