Decanter New Zealand Pinot Noir Feature
In the June 2022 issue of Decanter a stand out feature was the New Zealand 20 premium wines to try written by Tina Gellie.
With hundreds of fantastic Pinot's coming out of New Zealand now, we are very proud to have not one but two entries listed, (10% for the mathematicians amongst us!), from Gibbston Valley and Fromm Vineyard.
Fromm Clayvin Vineyard 2017 scored 93 points with a recommended window of 2022-2026 for optimum drinking although we feel may last a good few years longer than that.
"This renowned, north-facing clay vineyard at the top of the Brancott Valley has produced a beautiful wine in this vintage, and it's really starting to sing. Deep, intense and expressive, there's bags of juicy strawberries and red plums along with rose petals, cherries and buttery popcorn oak tones. Mouthfilling, with yielding tannins and bright acidity."
Gibbston Valley Le Maitre 2016 from Central Otago hit 92 points with thoughts of an extra years drinking on the former.
"This is Gibbston Valley's top single-vineyard Pinot (also check out the China Terrace and School House cuvées: 2016, £60 and £75 respectively, Hard to Find Wines). The dry-farmed site, the original Home Block planted in 1983, has produced a plush, inky mineral wine, boasting smoke, undergrowth and chocolate-covered liquorice flavours alongside crunchy black fruit."
