Fromm Winery Clayvin Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017
Michael Cooper, New Zealand Wines

"This acclaimed Marlborough red is grown and hand-picked on north-facing clay slopes at Clayvin Vineyard, in the Brancott Valley, fermented with indigenous yeasts, matured in French oak barriques, and bottled without fining or filtering. In its youth, it is more floral and charming than its Fromm Vineyard stablemate. Certified organic, the very youthful, vigorous 2017 vintage (5*) is rare ? only eight barrels were produced. Deeply coloured, it is full-bodied and sweet-fruited, with very deep, plummy, spicy flavours, earthy, savoury notes adding complexity, fresh acidity, supple tannins, and a lovely combination of power and grace. Full of potential, it should be at its best 2022+."

"A strong red-cherry nose with a deep sense of complexity that is, for now, tightly buried in this young pinot. There is plenty of spice and earthy sous bois to come with some more time. The pedigree is instantly seen on the palate with an enthralling interplay of power and elegance. Long, fresh and pure cherries and red plums fold through layers of fine tannins."

"Bright, fresh, high energy pinot noir with cherry, fresh herb, floral, red rose, and spicy oak flavours. Fromm's best known pinot noir showing good concentration and consistency, the benefits, perhaps, of vine age." 11/3/2019 Drink 2019 to 2023
