Fromm Winery Pinot Noir Fromm Vineyard 2017

"Winemaker Hatsch Kalberer describes this Marlborough red as not a typical New World style, but the truest expression of terroir you could find'. In the Fromm Vineyard near Renwick, in the heart of the Wairau Valley, many clones of Pinot Noir are close-planted on a flat site with alluvial top soils overlying layers of clay and free-draining gravels. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts, matured for 18 months in Burgundy oak barrels (six in 2017), and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Certified organic, the impressive 2017 vintage (*) looks set for a very long life. Full-coloured, it is savoury, ripe and finely structured, with deep plum, spice and nut flavours. A more graceful, supple red than some earlier vintages, with power through the palate, it's a top vintage, well worth cellaring to 2021+."

"Rich, fleshy pinot noir, with appealing fruit sweetness and luscious plum, ripe cherry and nutty oak flavours. The wine seems more softer, silkier and more accessible that I remember it. It will no doubt age well, but can be savoured without guilt right now." 11/3/2019 Drink 2019 to 2023
